DOES ACUPUNCTURE HURT?

At SLO Chinese Medical Center, we use very fine, sterile, disposable needles and you'll generally feel a little pressure where the needle is inserted. It almost feels like someone is pressing down on the point with a finger.

WHAT DOES IT TREAT?

Acupuncture helps you get stronger to heal yourself and it treats all kinds of ailments.

Chinese medicine is wonderful for a lot of things, but a short, 10 minute conversation will do wonders to determine if it is right for you.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A TREATMENT?

Everyone is different, and it's likely that you've already tried other methods to heal that haven't worked. Therefore, it's very important that you and I will work together as a team to discover the root of your ailment, whether it’s physical, emotional, chronic or acute.

I select points based on your Chinese diagnosis and wipe them with alcohol before inserting very small (32-36 gauge), single-use needles. I utilize needling methods that I had learned and used  successfully across China, Taiwan, and America.

I will then leave the room while you relax.

After the treatment, you will likely feel relaxed and energized at the same time, and it's encouraged that you take your time getting up.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

While some patients recover completely after 1 or 2 treatments, for most people I recommend 5 treatments initially so we can determine your response rate. Chronic injuries do take longer to heal and require a deeper commitment, much like how it's not unusual to see a physical therapist or a chiropractor 3 times a week in America.

The treatments have a cumulative effect, and that's why I treat at a lower cost. You should feel a significant difference after 5 treatments, and that's what I suggest you commit to.

Recovering is an incredible, life-affirming journey and I would be honored to help you get back to being the greatest version of yourself.

What is cupping?

Those reddish/purple spots on celebrities' and athletes' backs are all the rage these days to improve performance and look younger. Chinese cupping therapy is like an inverse massage, using suction over selected points along the spine to stimulate circulation, relieve tension and invigorate your body. The darker the circle, the more it shows that circulation is impeded in an area. It's amazing to see circles get lighter and lighter with each treatment!

Either glass "fire" cups or plastic vacuum cups can be used to treat a whole host of ailments like headaches, back and neck pain, anxiety or to just simply relax.
